Flutter Entertainment plc has committed to a restructuring of its UK and Ireland business that could cut up to 1,400 jobs, according to an 8-K filing dated 20 October.
The plan covers Flutter's UK and Ireland operations and UK&I staff at its hubs in Portugal and Romania. Flutter expects pre-tax charges of $80 million to $90 million, mostly for employee severance, benefits and related costs, with the charges falling in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Flutter says the plan is designed to mitigate the impact of higher UK gaming taxation, under tax mitigation plans it announced earlier. The costs were already included in updated guidance from its earnings update for the quarter ended 30 June 2026.
- Headcount: up to 1,400 roles.
- Charges: $80 million to $90 million pre-tax, plus stock-based compensation charges Flutter has not yet estimated.
- Timing: Flutter began notifying affected employees on 20 October. It expects to substantially complete the plan by the end of 2026, subject to legal and employee consultation.
The driver is the Remote Gaming Duty increase that took effect in April. We set out what the 40% rate does to operator economics in our analysis of UK operator unit economics.
The filing does not address pricing or product changes, and it does not give a split of the job cuts by site.
Flutter reports third-quarter results on 4 November, according to a separate 8-K filed on 22 October. The consultation outcome will show whether the 1,400 figure holds. For group leadership context, see our piece on Flutter naming Dan Taylor CEO.
