Alberta Launches Regulated Online Gambling With 28 Operators

Alberta will open its regulated online gambling market on July 13, 2026, with 28 operators approved by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). The province becomes the second in Canada, after Ontario, to admit private operators to a licensed online market.

The launch follows the passage of the iGaming Alberta Act and months of operator registration. The AGLC has published the list of approved operators ahead of the opening date, as reported by Gambling Insider and Yogonet.

Alberta's total gambling revenue reached roughly CA$1.9 billion in 2023, and provincial estimates place the online portion at more than CA$700 million a year once the market matures. The government projects the regulated market could generate close to CA$100 million in annual tax revenue.

For operators, Alberta is the most significant North American market opening of 2026. Ontario's model, which pairs a provincial conduct-and-management body with private brands, is the template, and the same operators that dominate Ontario are positioned to compete in Alberta from day one.

The opening matters for affiliates and suppliers too. A new regulated channel means fresh acquisition demand, new compliance requirements, and a second Canadian data set for operators measuring province-by-province performance. The market opens July 13.
