**The Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the NBA signed a memorandum of understanding on 26 October to protect integrity in professional basketball, the same week the league widened its prediction market partnerships.**

The CFTC release describes the agreement as a way to protect integrity in professional basketball and to keep prediction markets fair and transparent. CFTC Chairman Michael Selig called the NBA's move "a responsible step toward protecting sports integrity" and thanked NBA Commissioner Adam Silver for "putting the integrity of professional basketball and America's financial markets first."

## What the league announced alongside it

According to [iGaming Business](https://igamingbusiness.com/prediction-markets/nba-prediction-markets-cftc-deal-october-2026/?ref=igamingnews.biz), the NBA's own release made these points:

- Kalshi and Polymarket are named "Preferred Prediction Market Exchanges."
- The existing DraftKings partnership expands to include prediction markets and nationwide promotion.
- Both exchanges get access to NBA intellectual property, US marketing rights and official Sportradar data feeds.
- The league cites limits on permissible markets and a ban on league and team personnel trading NBA event contracts.

The CFTC release does not name the exchanges. The partner list therefore rests on iGaming Business's account of the NBA release.

## The MOU commits the agencies to talk

The MOU runs about five pages and is not legally binding, according to iGaming Business. It says neither party must create or share information with the other, and any sharing is at each party's "sole discretion." Cooperation is expected mainly through informal consultations, periodic meetings and written requests.

## Earlier limits on sportsbook markets

The NBA had already barred sportsbook partners from certain markets, including tip-off winners and some prop bets, after gambling scandals. Expanded partnerships with the league's other sports betting partners are expected in the coming weeks, according to the same report.

## Sportsbooks and exchanges may not face the same rules

The league's earlier market limits applied to sportsbook partners. The reporting does not make clear whether the same limits govern the exchange partners. The coming partner deals should settle that question, and they will show whether the league treats the two kinds of partner alike.
