**The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario fined Booming Games (Malta) Limited C$70,000 on August 20 for running a prohibited auto-play feature on its slot titles in the regulated Ontario market for several months before catching it.** The Malta-incorporated supplier breached two of the AGCO's technical standards at once, the ban on auto-play itself and the requirement to test and monitor games continuously after launch.

Ontario bans auto-play on slots specifically because it removes the pause between wagers that gives a player a moment to notice, and choose, whether to keep playing. AGCO's investigation found Booming Games' games let players spin continuously without that manual step, a design choice the regulator's own standards explicitly rule out.

The penalty cites two violations: Standard 2.16, Requirement 2, the prohibition on auto-play, and Standard 4.09, Requirement 3, the obligation to configure, test and monitor a game through its full lifecycle, not just before launch. AGCO said the second failure is what let the first one go undetected for as long as it did. Once flagged, the affected operator was notified and auto-play was switched off.

Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO's chief executive and registrar, said the case is about more than a technical slip: "Ontario's game design standards are fundamental player-protection measures built into the regulated igaming market. They are not optional technical requirements."

Booming Games has 15 days from the order to request a hearing before the Licence Appeal Tribunal, an independent body under Tribunals Ontario, so the penalty is not yet final. AGCO did not name the operator whose site hosted the affected games, only the supplier.

The fine lands in a market Ontario has spent two years building a compliance record around, from [Fanatics winning its own operator registration](https://www.igamingnews.biz/fanatics-ontario-igaming-registration/) to [BetGuard's self-exclusion tool going live](https://www.igamingnews.biz/betguard-self-exclusion-ontario-gap/) and neighbouring [Alberta opening to competing operators](https://www.igamingnews.biz/alberta-igaming-market-launch-competitive/) this summer. Unlike [Stakelogic's UK spin-speed fine](https://www.igamingnews.biz/stakelogic-ukgc-slot-spin-speed-fine/), which involved an operator-facing configuration choice, this one lands on a B2B games supplier whose products sit inside multiple operators' lobbies at once, a reminder that a single vendor's compliance gap can touch every platform that licenses its games.

## One supplier's bug, every operator's exposure

A slot supplier's code runs identically wherever it is licensed. When Booming Games' auto-play slipped past its own testing, every Ontario operator carrying its titles inherited the same violation without writing a line of it themselves. That is the argument for AGCO naming the supplier rather than the operator: the fix belongs upstream, and so does the accountability.
